Fishing in the heat today.
« on: July 20, 2017, 08:11:22 PM »
Went to a lake early today but not early enough to beat the heat.It was in the 90's and very humid.Fishing started slow. They had treated the lake with some kind of weed preventative and you could see the chemical all on the surface.I started with a small popper and caught one bluegill then nothing else so i switched to a chenille spider and caught several more small panfish. All the chemicals seemed to be flowing to one end of the lake.I switched from the 5wt to a 7wt that i had brought today and put on a size 4 bass popper and started fishing the edges of the banks on the opposite end of the lake and the bass were hungry.I must have caught over a dozen in a short period. All small but what a great morning on this lake. With the heat and chemicals on the water i was guessing the bite would be really slow if any today.I was definitely wrong.
